Oscar-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal's next movie, 'End of Watch,' won't premiere until Sept. 28 -- but you won't have to wait that long to see him. He'll make his American stage debut in the off-Broadway production of 'If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet' in August.

Here's a synopsis of the play, as described by the Hollywood Reporter:

At the center of the story is Anna, an overweight teenager being bullied at school. In order to protect her, the girl's mother transfers her to to the school where she teaches, but that makes the situation worse. Her dad is an environmentalist too busy trying to save the planet to help. But when her estranged uncle, a heartbroken drifter played by Gyllenhaal, shows up, their unexpected friendship may be just what Anna needs.

The London production of 'If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet' premiered to great critical acclaim in 2009, and the stateside previews of the show begin Aug. 24 at the Laura Pels Theatre, with an official opening set for Sept. 20.

While this will be the first time Gyllenhaal has graced a professional stage in the U.S., he's not a theater newbie. A decade ago, he appeared alongside Hayden Christensen and Anna Paquin in a production of 'This is Our Youth' in London.
