The cast for Tom Ford’s sophomore feature is shaping up beautifully — the film, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams and is based on the novel Tony and Susan, has added two very interesting new cast members. Avengers: Age of Ultron and Godzilla star Aaron Taylor-Johnson and all-around amazing actor Michael Shannon will co-star with Gyllenhaal in the thrilling new drama.

According to Variety, Taylor-Johnson and Shannon have joined the growing cast of Nocturnal Animals, Ford’s follow-up to his acclaimed debut feature A Single Man. The fashion designer-turned-director’s new film is based on Austin Wright’s 1993 novel, a story that is told in two parts. The first part centers on a woman (Adams) who receives a mysterious package form her ex-husband, whom she divorced 20 years ago. The package contains a book manuscript written by her ex, who wants her opinion on the story.

The second part is the story from the manuscript, which centers on a man (Gyllenhaal) whose blissful family vacation abruptly turns violent.

Gyllenhaal has had quite an incredible run of roles over the last couple of years, appearing in Denis Villeneuve’s thrillers Prisoners and Enemy, as well as Nightcrawler, Southpaw, and the upcoming Everest.

As for Shannon, he’s been quite busy as well, appearing with Andrew Garfield in the upcoming drama 99 Homes, as well as the gay rights drama Freeheld with Julianne Moore and Ellen Page. Shannon also reunited with his Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols for Midnight Special, hitting theaters next spring.
