Jay Roach and 'Parks and Recreation' scribe Dan Goor are teaming up for the comedy 'El Presidente,' and the director is gunning for Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. to star.

With his electoral comedy 'The Campaign,' starring Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell set for release this August, Jay Roach is already gearing up for his next comedy, and according to Vulture, the director behind 'Dinner for Schmucks' and 'Meet the Fockers' is eyeing Tom Cruise to play the part of a secret service agent who loves his job a little too much. Robert Downey Jr. would play the horrible former president whom the agent is tasked with protecting. When a threat is made on the former president's life, the pair go on the run to evade danger.

Playing the role of a jerk certainly isn't unfamiliar territory for the snarky Downey Jr., who can currently be seen as the suave and oh-so-witty Tony Stark/Iron Man in 'The Avengers.' More interesting, though, is the possibility of Cruise in another comedic role, something we haven't seen since his appearance as Les Grossman in 2008's 'Tropic Thunder.'

The script, which Warner Bros. is currently taking a second pass at, sounds like a typical odd couple comedy with an action twist -- perfectly suitable material for Tom Cruise.
