Before Jon Spaihts wrote ‘Prometheus’ and Marvel’s upcoming ‘Doctor Strange,’ he wrote ‘Passengers,’ a script that landed a coveted spot on the Black List, but hasn’t really gone anywhere since. That changed recently, as ‘The Imitation Game’ helmer Morten Tyldum has signed on to direct the sci-fi film, which now has its sights set on Hollywood’s biggest star to take the lead.

According to Variety, Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to headline ‘Passengers,’ which will be directed by Tyldum, recently nominated for an Oscar for directing ‘The Imitation Game.’ ‘Passengers’ centers on thousands of passengers aboard a spacecraft heading for a new home planet in a distant galaxy. 90 years before they’re set to be awoken from cryogenic sleep, one passenger wakes up and decides to rouse a female passenger, setting the course for an intriguing love story.

Lawrence would presumably play the female lead, while no names have yet been floated for her male co-star. Keanu Reeves was in talks to star early last year when Focus was set to acquire the rights to the sci-fi film. Is it too late to convince him to come back? A film with Reeves and Lawrence sounds pretty awesome.

Lawrence can be seen next in ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2,’ which hits theaters this November. She’s also set to reunite with her ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and ‘American Hustle’ director David O. Russell for ‘Joy,’ and she’ll reprise her role as Mystique for the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ which hits theaters next year.
