We’re still basking in the glow of Marvel’s Jessica Jones this weekend, wondering if Netflix’s super-heroine will follow Daredevil‘s lead with a Season 2 renewal, but there may be a complication. According to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, Netflix’s big Defenders teamup might take precedence over a second run on Jessica Jones.

Take this one with a grain of salt for now, as Marvel still has plenty of gaps to fill in by announcements of its Iron Fist, a Luke Cage premiere date and more, but it seems the eight-part teamup miniseries Defenders may soon affect production. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Rosenberg acknowledged that while a second season of Jessica Jones remains on the table, The Defenders may be closing the window:

Is there room for a second season of Jessica Jones before The Defenders in your mind?

I hope so. There certainly is storytelling wise. The question becomes is there actual time? There are logistics involved, because Defenders has to shoot by a certain time, contractually. Actually, I’m not sure; I’m not at all involved in those conversations, much to my dismay. The first question is whether or not we will even get a second season. The second question is, if so, when? Will it be before The Defenders or after? I’d certainly love it to be before but there are things that play into that — time, availability.

It only took eleven days beyond the premiere for Marvel to confirm a second season of Daredevil, but will Jessica Jones be so lucky? Might we see the character again in Luke Cage, in lieu of a second season? Where’s Iron Fist in all of this? Watch the latest trailers again below, and check out Jessica Jones on streaming, if you haven’t already.
