Kevin Feige Says Titles of 2020 Marvel Movies Are ‘Spoilers’

Oh, Marvel people. The actors, the directors, the screenwriters, the producers. You just can’t get anything out of them these days, can you? Marvel Studios fiercely guards its secrets, and information about upcoming movies or TV shows only gets out when it’s supposed to, which is why asking these people any kinds of questions is often an exercise in futility. But, for those of us willing to read between the lines, sometimes you can get more information out of what someone won’t say, than what they will.

There are currently three untitled Marvel movies scheduled for the year 2020, and we still have no idea what they’re are going to be about. There’s certainly a chance that Marvel also doesn’t know what they’ll be about, and just wanted to go ahead and monopolize a few premiere dates, but they probably do know. Kevin Feige, who has been extremely talkative lately, sure seems to.

Speaking with the Toronto Sun, he seemed to say that maybe, if we try really hard, we can figure out what these next movies will be:

Where we go after Avengers; what those 2020 films are, we’re pretty sure what those are going to be… but if I tell you that, we’re getting into spoilers.

After Doctor Strange, which is currently out in theaters, here’s what Marvel’s calendar looks like right now:

• May 5, 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
• July 7, 2017: Spider-Man: Homecoming
• November 3, 2017: Thor: Ragnarok
• February 16, 2018: Black Panther
• May 4, 2018: Avengers: Infinity War
• July 6, 2018: Ant-Man and the Wasp
• March 8, 2019: Captain Marvel
• May 3, 2019: Avengers 4
• May 1, 2020: Untitled Marvel Movie #1
• July 10, 2020: Untitled Marvel Movie #2
• November 6, 2020: Untitled Marvel Movie #3

Now, we know one that’s missing is the Inhumans movie, which was taken off the slate indefinitely but which Feige assures is still on the table. So that’s one down, probably. We also have the Russos’ comments about Captain America, in which they say he’s not really feeling the whole Captain America thing anymore after the events of Civil War, and could possibly become Nomad, his non-Cap alter-ego he took on after becoming disenfranchised with S.H.I.E.L.D.’s corruption. If he goes rogue after the events of Avengers 4, the second part of Infinity War (man, they’ve gotta come up with a new title soon), we could have, instead of another Captain America movie, a Nomad solo movie. So that’s two down? Maybe?

We know that a ton of superheroes will be featured in Infinity War who haven’t hung out with the Avengers before: the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, the Wasp, and Captain Marvel are all joining the team. So, after the war is over, any one of these characters could move on to another storyline in their respective comic arcs, which means (if the movie titles are considered spoilers) that stuff will happen during Infinity War that’ll change (and maybe end) the paths of some of these characters forever. What that’ll be is anyone’s guess, since we don’t know for sure how close the Russos are sticking to the Infinity War comics. And there’s still some hope out there for a Black Widow or a Hawkeye solo film as well, which would indicate a core dissolution of the Avengers. Whatever happens, the Russos say that Infinity War will rattle the foundations of the MCU and bring on some rapid change. We’re excited to see what comes next.
