A villain that rivals the indulgent, maniacal wackiness of Samuel L. Jackson in Kingsman: The Secret Service? That’s a bold claim, but it’s one Taron Egerton is making as the actor teases what we can expect from Kingsman 2. Not only will the follow-up have a great villain, but the action won’t be confined to the U.K. as director Matthew Vaughn is taking young Eggsy globe-trotting.

Vaughn is returning to direct and co-write Kingsman 2 with Jane Goldman, making this the first time Vaughn has helmed a sequel to his own film. The director previously hinted at the possibility that the sequel could head to America, where a similar training program exists stateside. That might very well happen, as Egerton spoke to Collider about Kingsman 2, and revealed some very exciting prospects:

With Kingsman, we’re shooting in the summer at present. There’s a script, it’s brilliant. Obviously there’s only so much I can say but what I can say is that we shot [the first] one all in the U.K., that won’t be the case with the next one. It’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson—this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It’s amazing.

So far, Egerton is the only actor confirmed to return for Kingsman 2, which begins shooting this spring for a 2017 release date. The R-rated, gleefully violent and frenetic action-comedy was a bit of a gamble for 20th Century Fox, especially with its February release date. But Kingsman wowed audiences and went on to gross $410 million worldwide, all-but-guaranteeing a sequel.

Egerton appears next opposite Hugh Jackman in Eddie the Eagle, which hits theaters in March. He’s also signed on to star in Lionsgate’s gritty Robin Hood: Origins, with production for that film recently delayed a bit by Egerton’s commitment to Kingsman 2.
