'Kung Fury' on its own sounds like the sequel to that Steve Oedekerk 'Kung Pow: Enter the Fist' nobody wanted, and, actually, it's not too far off. Swedish director David Sandberg, 28, who apparently goes by the name "Laser Unicorns" (hence, his production name) released the first trailer for this film, which combines some of the best (or perhaps worst) aspects of '80s cinema into one epic cop actioner.
Robots, dinosaurs, kung fu Hitler and ... Thor? If everything you see in the 'Kung Fury' trailer doesn't blow your concept of what can constitute a motion picture out of proportion, perhaps the storyline will:
KUNG FURY is an over-the-top action comedy written and directed by David Sandberg. The movie features: arcade-robots, dinosaurs, nazis, vikings, norse gods, mutants and a super kung fu-cop called Kung Fury, all wrapped up in an '80s style action-packed adventure. During an unfortunate series of events a friend of Kung Fury is assassinated by the most dangerous kung fu master criminal of all time; Adolf Hitler, a.k.a Kung Führer. Kung Fury decides to travel back in time, to Nazi Germany, in order to kill Hitler and end the Nazi empire once and for all. Kung Fury is a visually spectacular action comedy that has it's foundation in '80s cop movies.
Through $5,000 of his own money and "driven by a strong will [and] love for the '80s and action movies to create a unique movie," Sandberg cut a 30-minute short film, for which he completed all the VFX work himself and shot in Sweden and Norway. He hopes to transform this short film into a feature-length affair, and that's where his Kickstarted comes in. According to the young director, if he meets his goal, he will release the original 30-minute film for free online.
