The late Friday occurrence of Paris’ tragic terror attacks left many late-night programs without a pulpit to address the events, though weekend shows managed to extend their support. Last Week Tonight With John Oliver went just a bit further with its Sunday run, however, as Oliver laid into the attackers as “unconscionable flaming a–holes.”

Unsurprisingly leading Sunday’s Last Week Tonight with a response to the Paris bombings, Oliver took the opportunity to display some of HBO’s “premium cable profanity” in addressing the horrific events, as well as lambasting those responsible:

Look, it’s hardly been 48 hours and much is still unknown, but there are a few things we can say for certain. And this is when it actually helps to be on HBO, where those things can be said without restraint, because after the many necessary and appropriate moments of silence, I’d like to offer you a moment of premium cable profanity.

So, here is where we stand. First, as of now, we know this attack was carried out by gigantic f—ing a–holes. Unconscionable, flaming a–holes, possibly working with other f—ing a–holes, definitely working in service of an ideology of pure a–holery. Second, and this goes almost without saying, f— these a–holes. F– them, if I may say, sideways.

Oliver also denounced the efficacy of the terrorists’ goals, stating that “France is going to endure,” citing the long-running history of additions to modern culture and lifestyle. As of now, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks, while French president François Hollande has already retaliated by bombing the Syrian city of Raqqa, an ISIS stronghold.

We’ll likely see many others weighing in over the next few weeks, but rewatch John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight rant above, and stay tuned for the latest.
