Following today's first look at The Legend of Tarzan comes the first official trailer for the film, which revives the classic character with the help of Alexander Skarsgard and Harry Potter director David Yates. For those that suspected the new Tarzan film might be a bit silly, the trailer is filled with striking imagery and epic action shots, promising a movie that will be quite lovely to look at, at the very least.

Skarsgard takes on the titular role in The Legend of Tarzan, but rather than provide us with another origin story, Yates' film takes place years after the mighty hero has left Africa and become civilized as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, living in marital bliss with his beloved Jane (Margot Robbie). If you got a few Congo vibes from the monkey action in the trailer, that's because the film sees Tarzan embarking on a trip to the Congo to work as a trade emissary, where he discovers that he's being manipulated by the nefarious Belgian Captain Leon Rom. Unfortunately for Rom and his lackeys, they picked the wrong guy to mess with — and the wrong place to do it.

Surprising absolutely no one, Christoph Waltz plays the film's villain, joined by co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and Djimon Hounsou. Skarsgard looks suitably ripped as the king of the jungle, but Yates' cinematography (provided by Henry Braham) is equally as attractive, evocative of his work on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — all misty with stark blues and greens. The thing just looks great.

Yates is currently in production on his follow-up, which sees him returning to the world of Harry Potter for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them — which means we're getting not one, but two new Yates films next year. The Legend of Tarzan hits theaters on July 1, 2016, followed by Fantastic Beasts on November 18, 2016.
