Both Arrow and The Flash have made entire industries of geek-friendly casting, so it’s only fair Legends of Tomorrow follow the trend. Fan-favorite Firefly falum (okay, alum) Jewel Staite will cross paths with the Legends of Tomorrow later this season, and may herself have some famous DC forebears.

TVLine broke word of Staite’s casting, clarifying only that the Firefly star would take the 10th episode role of Rachel Turner, a “tech genius/roboticist who exists in a future in which technology has an even firmer grip on our lives than it does today.” Beyond that, Rachel is said to be from a long line of inventors (among them a famous DC character, so get to speculatin’), though her altruistic hopes and technology fall into the hands of Vandal Savage in the future, necessitating a teamup with the titular Legends.

So reads the official Legends of Tomorrow description:

When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

Set for 15 episodes (to start), thus far we know Legends of Tomorrow will include among its cast Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber), Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh), Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), Caity Lotz, time-traveler Rip Hunter (Doctor Who alum Arthur Darvill), Valentina Vostok (Stephanie Corneliussen) and DC big bad Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).

Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on January 21, but what do we make of the newest addition? Check out the trailers and photo below.
