‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Brings the Jingle Bells in a Special Holiday GreetingMatthew Monagle |
A few weeks ago, I attended a holiday party where Nick Offerman’s ‘Yule Log’ played in the background for the entire evening. As people milled about the living room, passing appetizers and making polite introductions, the wise face of Nick Offerman beamed forth from the television, taking occasional sips from a glass of whisky and listening to the crackling fire. And despite years spent listening to Mannheim Steamroller and Frank Sinatra around the holidays, it was the silence of Nick Offerman’s fake living room that now sounds the most like Christmas to me.
Why bring this story up? Earlier this week, The LEGO Batman Movie shared a special holiday message (via iO9) from the Dark Knight and his extended family. And while many people have pointed out that Warner Bros. now owes us the full reading of The Night Before Christmas, I have a different holiday special in mind. I would now pay good money for an extended video of the LEGO Robin, standing in front of a crackling fire, and enthusiastically bounding about the screen as he shakes those bells with all his might. Imagine all your friends and family members standing around your living room and sipping eggnog as Robin bounces around your television screen for an hour, maniacally jingling his bells. Doesn’t that just fill you with good holiday cheer?
And since it’s the holidays, I’ll even let you have that one for free. You’re welcome, LEGO.
Here’s the full synopsis for The LEGO Batman Movie:
In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO® Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble — LEGO Batman — stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.
