Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Best Actor Drama at 2016 Golden Globes

Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his role in The Revenant at the 2016 Golden Globes.

In Alejandro G. Iñarritu’s The Revenant, DiCaprio portrays the real-life frontiersman Hugh Glass. Left for dead by his fellow fur trappers (Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson) in the dead of winter, Glass struggled to survive and get revenge on the men who betrayed him. DiCaprio beat out Eddie Redayne for The Danish Girl, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, Bryan Cranston for Trumbo and Will Smith for Concussion. This marks DiCaprio’s third Golden Globe win.

Before his acceptance speech DiCaprio received a standing ovation. He thanked Inarritu, who won a Golden Globe earlier in the evening, saying, “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this journey with you.” He then thanked his co-stars, specifically calling out Tom Hardy (“a beast”) who Leo says “would never bury me alive and leave me to die in real life.” (Good to know?)

Last year, Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for The Theory of Everything.
