When you think of Lin-Manuel Miranda, what do you think of? Hamilton? Moana? A Twitter feed full of positive and encouraging thoughts? The Spider-Man villain Carnage? If it’s that last one, you and the master songsmith think alike, because Carnage is the one Marvel character Miranda apparently would love to play.

In this weekend’s episode of Meet the Movie Press (per MCU Exchange), host Simon Thompson said that Miranda had broached the subject during a recent interview.

[Miranda] is a big fan of Marvel. And there is one particular character that he would actually like to play. It’s Carnage. He said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in [the MCU] as a character, he wants to be Carnage. Genuinely as a fan, he would love to play Carnage. That’s a goal of his.

Carnage was created, originally, to replace Venom, but as that character’s popularity increased, Marvel wouldn’t allow him to be killed off. Instead, Carnage ended up being a keyed-up version of Venom without any sense of conscience or morality, who bonds with a psychopathic serial killer and goes on a rampage before being defeated by Spider-Man and Venom’s joint effort.

It’s kind of hilarious to think about sweet, future E.G.O.T. Lin-Manuel Miranda taking on the role of a symbiote worse than Venom, but, then again, Tom Hiddleston also seems like the friendliest dude ever, and his tragic, oily-haired portrayal of Loki for the Thor movies and The Avengers is one of the most popular villains of all time. Spider-Man: Homecoming is poised to launch a new Spider-Man franchise, so a Carnage storyline might not be that far into the future. Maybe, after playing a hero so much, it’s time for Miranda to get in touch with his dark side. It’s always the nice ones you’ve gotta watch out for.
