It’s not often that we get to see Elizabeth Banks take on a dramatic role, but lest you forget that she’s got some versatility to offer, here comes the trailer for ‘Little Accidents,’ which is definitely Drama with a capital D. Banks stars in the film as Diane, the wife of a mining executive who is loathed for his involvement in a major accident. When their teenage son goes missing, Diane connects with the sole survivor of the mining incident, and as these things go, some unpleasant truths are bound to be uncovered.

Banks is best known for her comedic work, from her early role in ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ to more recent roles in ‘The LEGO Movie’ and ‘Pitch Perfect’ (she’s also making her directorial debut with the sequel). But Banks has a lot more than chuckles to offer, and I’m intrigued by the trailer for ‘Little Accidents,’ which also boasts a nice supporting cast: Josh Lucas, Boyd Holbrook, Chloe Sevigny, and Jacob Lofland (who you might remember from last year’s ‘Mud’).

Here’s the official synopsis:

When a teenage boy goes missing in a small town already devastated by a fatal mining accident, three strangers find themselves drawn together in a tangle of secrets, lies, and the collective grief of the community. Reeling from the disappearance of her son, Diane (Elizabeth Banks) finds herself drifting away from her husband (Josh Lucas), a mining company executive whose role in the accident has made her family the prime target for the town’s anger. When she forms a dangerous bond with the sole survivor of the disaster (Boyd Holbrook), truths will be uncovered that threaten to tear apart the few remaining threads holding the town together in this intense drama from writer-director Sara Colangelo.

‘Little Accidents’ hits theaters and iTunes on January 16.
