The film adaptation of 'Little Shop of Horrors' features a mostly happy ending, in which Seymour arrives to save Audrey from being eaten by Audrey II, and when the carnivourous plant reveals itself to be a space alien, Seymour ultimately defeats it and goes on to live happily ever after with the love of his life. But the original ending, like the one in the musical, was much, much darker. Audrey II eats Audrey, kills Seymour, and then proceeds to take over America — wiping out cities and overcoming the military. Unfortunately, test audiences didn't like this audacious ending, so we got the happier one for the film version. It's too bad because the original ending where everyone dies is kind of awesome and works better with the themes of fame, greed, and cosumer culture.
