We’ve known for some time now that original Jump Street writing / directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller would be involved with 23 Jump Street, but given their increasingly busy schedules, it seemed less and less likely that they’d find time to direct it. Turns out that’s definitely the case, as the pair will merely be involved as producers on the upcoming sequel.

Via Slashfilm, Chris Miller was on hand at the TCAs to discuss their FOX comedy series The Last Man on Earth, when he was inevitably asked about their other upcoming comedy project:

We are hard at work on 23 Jump Street, which I think we will probably just produce from a time standpoint. But we’ve been working really hard. We’ve got a really good first draft of a script in and we’re really excited about it.

As for their involvement with The Flash and the young Han Solo Star Wars movie, Miller was predictably unable to comment. It’s those two projects that are currently eating up Lord and Miller’s time — the duo are developing the screenplay for The Flash movie for WB, and recently signed on to write and direct the Han Solo standalone film.

23 Jump Street is being scripted by Rodney Rothman, who previously wrote 22 Jump Street and episodes of Undeclared. Rothman is also producing The Lonely Island’s upcoming film, tentatively titled Conner4Real.

Lord and Miller previously revealed that they had come up with a great concept for 23 Jump Street, which would incorporate all of those wacky fake sequels from the end credits of 22 Jump Street, making those sequels “official canon.”

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will return to reprise their roles for the third film, which does not currently have a release date.
