Given the franchise’s tragic history (including original star Brandon Lee’s on-set death during the filming of the original movie), you have to wonder if ‘The Crow’ is cursed. Just hours after the reboot of the franchise lost a director (F. Javier Gutierrez, following in the footsteps of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo) and gained another (Corin Hardy) comes word that the new star of the franchise, Luke Evans, might be taking his leave of the supernatural, super goth-y superhero franchise as well.

The news comes via Den of Geek, who spoke with Evans about his latest project, ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.’ When questioned about whether the ‘Crow’ reboot was going to move forward, Evans had this to say:

It’s not, no. No at the minute ‘The Crow’ is not, not for me, I think it’s a little … I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer! [laughs]

Evans has been attached to ‘The Crow’ for quite some time, so it’s hard to fault him for getting impatient. Plus Evans already has one gothic horror superhero franchise of his own (‘Dracula Untold’), so maybe headlining another horror superhero franchise is just too similar. Whether Evans (or Hardy) sticks around or not, we’re clearly still a long ways off from seeing another Crow onscreen.
