‘Man in the High Castle’ Renewed for Season 3 With New Showrunner

If the thought of an America overrun by fascists and always on the brink of nuclear annihilation offers no comfort, you may at least want to stay off Amazon in 2017. The Man in the High Castle has officially been renewed for Season 3, and with a new showrunner (or rather, a showrunner) at that.

Amazon confirmed the news that the alternate-reality post-World War II drama would return for another round (presumably for late 2017, per comments below), with Bosch and The Affair alum Eric Overmyer serving as new boss. The series famously got by without a showrunner in Season 2, following the exit of Frank Spotnitz.

Not only that, but the show’s uncomfortable subject matter wasn’t lost on Amazon’s thoughts toward renewal:

As timely as ever, the exploration of characters at a dark point for humanity has provided incredible stories for two seasons. Eric and his team are doing an incredible job crafting stories about the inner lives of those who struggle to do good in a world that is not. We couldn’t be more excited to bring season three to customers in 2017.

For those unfamiliar, Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle adapts an old Philip K. Dick novel to imagine a 1962 in which the United States had lost World War II, and subsequently been divided between the German “Greater Nazi Reich,” and the “Japanese Pacific States.” The series stars Alexa Davalos, Rufus Sewell, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and DJ Qualls.
