Mark Ruffalo has been a great actor who's had smaller parts in big movies and big parts in small movies, but it looks like 'The Avengers' is going to change all that. His latest project could be Bennett Miller's 'Foxcatcher' where he would be playing against Steve Carell and 2012's poster-boy Channing Tatum.

Variety broke the news about Ruffalo's casting. 'Foxcatcher' tells the true-life story of John du Pont (to be played by Carell), a rich air and paranoid schizophrenic who built Foxcatcher, a wrestling training gym, on his estate. He also killed friend and wrestler David Schultz (Ruffalo's part) in front of witnesses. Tatum would play Ruffalo's brother.

The script comes from E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman. Frye is probably best known for 'Something Wild,' which Criterion released last year, and is still a masterpiece. Futterman worked with Miller on 'Capote' and was rewarded with an Oscar nomination.

It seems likely that Frye was the first writer on the project, and Futterman was brought in  by Miller, so likely the project started a bit quirkier. But with the casting of Carell in the lead it likely will have some funny elements to the story - though Carell has shown previously he's got range, and this could be his transitional role. As it's planning to shoot in October, 'Foxcatcher' will surely be Oscar bait in 2013.
