Mark Ruffalo loves to talk about Thor: Ragnarok.

He’s previously called it a “buddy picture” between his character, Bruce Banner, and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. And he’s also previously said in the wake of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Banner is “removing himself from humanity altogether” to keep society safe from the Hulk. Now he’s chatting the movie up again, this time with the folks over at Empire, where he sort of expounds on the whole “buddy picture” concept by getting even more specific about the film’s look and feel:

“There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro. I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner.”

Ruffalo also called Thor 3 a “universal road movie,” but also teased “It’s not where you’d think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think.” One imagines, then, that Hulk, having extricated himself from humanity, may gone so far as to head into outer space, a la the “Planet Hulk” storyline. Which would be so cool to see onscreen.

Either way, Midnight Run is one of the greatest buddy movies of all time, and given the brief (BUT AMAZING) interactions between Hulk and Thor in the first two Avengers, their oil-and-water chemistry is perfect for an awkward road (or space) trip. Once again, Marvel’s doing things smart by making each of their movies a bit different from the rest. They’ve done conspiracy thrillers and heist movies and giant action spectacles; a buddy action comedy would be another awesome weapon in their arsenal. (It would also liven up the Thor series, which is easily the studio’s weakest.) Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi, opens in theaters on November 3, 2017.
