Mark Wahlberg is just like the rest of us: he knows he’s made some bad decisions in his past, and he hopes to be able to atone for them. Since he’s an actor, many of those decisions have to do with roles he’s played in past movies. Nowadays he probably wouldn’t choose the same roles he had as a youngster. Sure, Marky Mark, we’re with you so far. But here’s the kicker: Wahlberg, who has starred in Transformers: Age of Extinction, Max Payne, and The Happening, hopes that the good Lord will forgive him for one movie specifically: Paul Thomas Anderson’s ’70s porn opus Boogie Nights.

While speaking to an audience at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago (via Indiewire), Wahlberg detailed his personal worries about the Almighty:

I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving, because I’ve made some poor choices in my past. Boogie Nights is up there at the top of the list.

There’s a chance he was probably just joking around with the crowd, but this does echo a sentiment that today’s Mark Wahlberg has mentioned. He’s older now, and a father of children, and earlier this year he told ABC News that Boogie Nights’ struggling young porn star Dirk Diggler would probably not be a role he’d seek out today. Sounds perfectly reasonable. Wahlberg can next be seen starring in Daddy’s Home 2, for which we’ll be hotly anticipating God’s review.
