Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' has been generous with next week's premiere in providing plenty of clips, photos and surprises lurking in the "Shadows," but now the ABC drama has a simple tool to expose its new edge. See the 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' heading into darkness with a moody new poster for season 2, premiering September 23!

Per the official 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' twitter account, the new season 2 poster ditches that snazzy S.H.I.E.L.D. / Hydra logo we spied at Comic-Con 2014, and instead has the core team (including promo no-shows Ward and Fitz) standing atop a red logo for the fallen organization. Curiously, the figure in the upper right (which at first glance appears to be new cast member Nick Blood's Lance Hunter, but might make more sense as Ward. White guys with beards!) stands opposed to the team, as his section splinters off.

In addition to 'Agent Carter' and her Howling Commandos, here's how ABC describes September 23 premiere "Shadows":

Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources--but that's not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?

Guest starring are B.J. Britt as Agent Antoine Triplett, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrian Pasdar as Brigadier General Glenn Talbot, Henry Simmons as Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie, Patton Oswalt as Agent Billy Koenig, Lucy Lawless as Isabelle "Izzy" Hartley, Wilmer Calderon as Idaho, Reed Diamond as Daniel Whitehall, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Brian Patrick Wade as Carl Creel, Matthew Glave as Roger Browning, Simon Kassianides as Sunil Bakshi, George Stephanopoulos as self, Raquel Gardner as Carla Talbot, Ben Turner Nixon as Hydra Officer, Franco Vega as Military Leader, Rich Ceraulo as Soldier #1, and JB Tadena as Private Tilden.

Elsewhere of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 2, we know that Lucy Lawless will play veteran agent Isabelle Hartley, Brian Patrick Wade will play Marvel's "Absorbing Man," Nick Blood will play mercenary Lance Hunter and 'Dollhouse’ star / Whedon favorite Reed Diamond will take the role of Daniel Whitehall (Secret Wars’ Kraken) as a Hydra baddie. 'Twin Peaks' star Kyle MacLachlan will appear as Skye's apparently-gooey father, while Adrian Pasdar's Glenn Talbot and Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill have been confirmed for an eventual reappearance as well, and 'Friday Night Lights' star Adrianne Palicki will play Barbara Morse, better known as Marvel's "Mockingbird."
