It's been a rough year for Mel Gibson. His latest film 'Get the Gringo' is going straight to Video on Demand, and then there's all that hassle with the film he was going to make with Joe Eszterhas. Well, finally he's got some good news, as he's going to be in Robert Rodriguez's 'Machete Kills.'

It looks as though Rodriguez is directing this sequel solo - which was not the case with the last film - and surely Rodriguez is over the moon with excitement with this casting as he is one of the world's biggest 'Road Warrior' fans. As the last film got Robert De Niro and Steven Seagal, it's hard to know if this is a step up or down. Then again, De Niro was so clearly uninterested in the film and Segeal so clearly was that it all depends on how committed Gibson is to the material.

Deadline confirmed this, and we reported about it not so long ago. Danny Trejo is back, though the rest of the cast hasn't been filled in yet. When this shoots in relation to Sin City 2 is anyone's guess, and since Rodriguez often is his own cinematographer and editor (and composer and cook), it's hard not to speculate about its quality. But being a bit rough and short goes with the grindhouse vibe of the films.
