From Leonardo DiCaprio to Christian Bale, the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic Steve Jobs had a long road to finding the right actor to star as the former Apple CEO. Eventually director Danny Boyle hired Michael Fassbender for the part, and now we have our first look at how Fassbender looks as Jobs and, well, he doesn't really look anything like Steve Jobs.

The following promo poster is being used as set dressing on the San Francisco set of Steve Jobs and a fan was able to take a quick shot:

It's a replication of a promotional advertisement for NeXT, the computer company Jobs founded after he was ousted by Apple in 1985 (Jobs would later return to Apple as their CEO in 1997 after Apple acquired NeXT in 1996). The script by Aaron Sorkin takes place in real time throughout three major product launches, and one of these launches is of the NeXT computer.

We don't want to get too worked up over the fact that an actor portraying a real life person doesn't look exactly like that person (it's that narrow-minded thinking that tends to hamper too much fancasting, which often relies too much on visual similarities), but it's worth noting that Fassbender really doesn't look anything like Jobs. He actually looks more like Vince Vaughn in Unfinished Business than Steve Jobs. It's fine that Fassbender doesn't much look like Jobs (Ashton Kutcher looked a lot like him in Jobs, but that movie wasn't very good), but they don't appear to be doing anything to help the cast. Minus the pose and outfit, Fassbender is wearing his usual hair, instead of a floppy Jobs cut.

Michael Fassbender is a great actor and we're more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his portrayal of Steve Jobs (or his portrayal of anyone, really). We just hope this one image isn't indicative of his look throughout the film.

Steve Jobs, which also stars Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet and Jeff Daniels, is scheduled to open in theaters on October 9.
