I do not have the words to adequately express how much I love this.

It’s from composer supreme Michael Giacchino, who is currently working on Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Wall-Crawler’s long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Tom Holland as the new Spidey. Presumably, the film will have an original score, but in the video Giacchino just tweeted, we see a full orchestra performing the most badass version of the classic Spider-Man cartoon theme that has ever been recorded:

A little background for the uninitiated: Spidey made his TV debut in 1967, in a cartoon series aired on ABC. The show’s animation was crude (Spidey’s costume didn’t even have all its webbing) but it had a lot of energy and its theme song, featuring such inspired couplets as “Is he strong? Listen bud / He’s got radioactive blood,” remains famous decades later. That’s the song you hear above, albeit in far more dramatic fashion than it ever appeared on TV. If you need a little refresher on the original theme (or you’re not an old man like me and haven’t seen the 1960s Spidey cartoon):

I highly doubt this will be the main theme of Spider-Man: Homecoming. But I suspect you will hear this, at least in some kind of musical cameo. When Giacchino did the score for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, he made a new (awesome) theme for the film, but he also threaded classic Trek music into the movie as well, and the old ’60s show’s theme appeared over part of the closing credits. I wouldn’t be shocked to see something similar for Homecoming when it swings into theaters on July 7.
