The annual Xbox 360 console update is still a few months away, but on Friday, Microsoft began sign-ups for the beta test, which will give entrants the first glimpse of the newly redesigned dash and features.

Microsoft's Major Nelson announced the beta, offering a few details on how to sign up, and providing a FAQ for general questions. A major part of the upcoming fall update is going to be the removal of Microsoft Points in favor of actual currency. There's also a chance the dash will be slightly redesigned to look more like the Xbox One (a definite Windows 8 Live Tile vibe), which will keep the brand more consistent across platforms.

Unfortunately, we won't know much unless Microsoft reveals more details as everyone who partakes must sign a non-disclosure agreement, and cannot reveal any information about what happens in the beta. If you're looking to get in on the action early, go sign-up now.
