Mindy Kaling’s FOX Sitcom Gets Another Title Change

Whoops!  Looks like a bit of an appropriately messy stumble for Mindy Kaling's recently-picked up FOX sitcom 'It's Messy,' which to date has been one of the more promising pilots of the season.  The project went untitled until being announced for pickup in advance of FOX's Upfront presentation, but now it seems that even 'It's Messy' isn't going to cut it.  So what's the show being called now?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Mindy Kaling's buzz-worthy FOX sitcom 'It's Messy' will (however temporarily) re-title itself to 'The Mindy Project,' likely until both FOX and Kaling's creative team come up with something more appropriate to the show.  As of yet, no official reason has been given for the change (aside from us all hating it).

Whatever it call itself, Kaling’s pilot, executive produced by ‘The Office’ co-star B.J. Novak and which will likely somehow facilitate the exit of her ‘Office’ character Kelly Kapoor,’ follows a ‘Bridget Jones’-esque OB/GYN as she navigates her personal and professional lives.  Another of Kaling’s current ‘Office’ co-stars, Ed Helms will play the pilot role of Dennis, a potential love interest of Kaling’s character Mira, and a Wall Street analyst who goes on a blind date with her.

The pilot also boasts Richard Schiff as a "menschy" OB/GYN alongside Kaling, as well as ‘Saturday Night Live‘ veteran Bill Hader to play Mira’s ex-boyfriend Tom, described as an “upbeat, humble, almost infinitely appealing boy-next-door type who has such perfect chemistry with Kaling’s character that it feels nearly too good to be true. Mira sees him as the living breathing equivalent of an early 80’s Tom Hanks.”
