Kate Mara looks very confused in the new teaser trailer for Morgan, and so am I.

The sci-fi horror thriller from Ridley Scott's son Luke Scott is probably the most teasy teaser you'll see this year. It seems to follow a human-like hooded creature (though clearly not human) who grows up exponentially fast and wreaks havoc in a laboratory. There's shadowy dim-lighting, blood streaks across a window and layers of tense shouting and eerie sound effects building up to Mara's confrontation with the titular figure. Here's the official synopsis:

A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent "human," who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.

Huh? Still no idea what's going on, but I'm intrigued. Luckily the director provided Entertainment Weekly with a further description of the mysterious project. “What Morgan really alludes to is human beings becoming, in a sense, the creator," Scott said, referencing films like Frankenstein and Metropolis. "It’s the creation of a being that is greater than the creator.”

The script, written by Seth Owen, was on the 2014 Blacklist of top unproduced screenplays. We may not know much about the titular Morgan, but she's played by The Witch breakout actress Anya Taylor-Joy, which has me most excited. Game of Thrones actress Rose Leslie also stars in the film and appears to be the mother of Morgan or some kind of caretaker. The rest of the cast is rounded out with Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti with Ridley Scott producing. Hopefully we'll find out whatever Morgan is when the film opens September 2.
