MTV has found success with smaller teen-centric thrillers like Scream and Teen Wolf, but can the millennial network go full-on epic for its The Shannara Chronicles adaptation? The first trailer for the Jon Favreau-produced fantasy world has arrived, channeling everything from Lord of the Rings to Thor and I Am Legend.

For those unfamiliar with the 25-book franchise that began in 1977, the Shannara series follows the titular family hundreds of years after the destruction of our own civilization, whose magical powers “perpetually reshape the future of the world.” Intriguingly, Jon Favreau’s adaptation (with Smallville producers Al Gough and Miles Millar at the helm) stars with the chronologically second novel, The Elfstones of Shannara, as its first season.
