NBC’s ‘Constantine’ Conjures First Look at Voodoo Villain Papa Midnite
NBC's 'Constantine' hasn't exactly lit the world aflame the way FOX's 'Gotham' or The CW's 'Flash' have advanced the DC TV brand, but the demon detective's NBC adventures are about to conjure their most comic book-centric story yet. See Michael James Shaw's arrival as 'Constantine''s voodoo villain Papa Midnite in new photos from this Friday's "The Devil's Vinyl!"
First brought to life by 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Djimon Hounsou in 2005's 'Constantine,' this Friday will see the occult villain reborn on NBC's series as John (Matt Ryan) is forced to confront the voodoo king of New Orleans. Says NBC of Michael James Shaw's introduction as the character:
A DESPERATE WIFE MUST MAKE A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL TO SAVE HER HUSBAND'S LIFE -- MICHAEL JAMES SHAW GUEST STARS AS 'PAPA MIDNITE'
John (Matt Ryan) and Zed (Angélica Celaya) engage in a dangerous confrontation to save a woman and her family from sinister forces. John's efforts force him to confront the darkness in his own life - while also coming face to face with a new powerful adversary in Papa Midnite (guest star Michael James Shaw). Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford also star.
For his part, Michael James Shaw has few recognizable credits beyond a brief (and apparently uncredited) appearance in ‘The Wire,’ while Papa Midnite has appeared in ‘Hellblazer’ comics dating back to 1988. There, Papa Midnite is known as an immortal voodoo priest, organized crime leader, and foe to John Constantine.
We've included the first photos of 'Constantine''s Papa Midnite above and below, but what say you? How have you been enjoying the first few episodes of NBC's hell-blazing new DC drama?
