The writing was more or less heat-visioned into the wall when DC comedy Powerless had its final episodes pulled from NBC, but the network is making it official. The revamped super-comedy has powered down, and executive producer Justin Halpern has an adorably bitter message.

Among the many renewals and cancellations flying around Upfront season, NBC confirmed that the Vanessa Hudgens-Danny Pudi-Alan Tudyk comedy will not return for Season 2, and may not air the two episodes left in its initial order. One of the unscheduled episodes featured ‘60s TV Batman Adam West playing the role of a higher-up at Wayne Security, but allow Halpern to voice his disappointment:

Halpern also previously answered questions about the show’s future on Reddit, including plans for Natalie Morales’ Green Fury, and the unlikelihood of a Hulu or Netflix rescue. Having been heavily revamped from its concept as an insurance comedy, Powerless’ full synopsis reads:

In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

NBC may at least make the remaining two episodes available online, but did Powerless deserve a second shot? Is DC out of the comedy business?
