NBC's 'The Maya Rudolph Show' Sets May Premiere, Guests Andy Samberg, Kristen Bell and MoreKevin Fitzpatrick |
Stephen Colbert might have dominated the late-night landscape with the announcement of his succession to 'Late Show' host David Letterman, but NBC has stolen back a bit of thunder with help from 'SNL' veteran Maya Rudolph. The network has officially scheduled 'The Maya Rudolph Show' variety special for a late May premiere, with guests such as 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' star Andy Samberg, Kristen Bell and more, but what are the chances of an ongoing series?
Via Entertainment Weekly, 'The Maya Rudolph Show' will air on Monday, May 19 at 10:00 P.M., with a guest roster that includes Bell, Samberg, 'Portlandia' star and fellow 'SNL' vets Fred Armisen and Chris Parnell, along with 'The Office''s Craig Robinson and 'Smash' (womp) and 'Sean Saves the World' (womp-womp) star Sean Hayes. Additionally, Janelle Monáe will act as the musical guest, with Raphael Saaddiq will serve as Rudolph's bandleader.
It isn't yet known if the network intends to make a regular outing of 'The Maya Rudolph Show,' or perhaps move to series altogether, though we imagine its pedigree as executive produced by 'SNL' creator Lorne Michaels will move NBC to consider the one-hour 'Maya Rudolph Show' a pilot for potential pickup.
What do you think? Would Maya Rudolph make a strong addition to the late-night landscape, or is 'The Maya Rudolph Show' one and done?
