Previously, 'Necessary Roughness' fans found themselves in a bit of jeopardy, as USA has cautiously opted to renew the entirety of its summer lineup, save for the Callie Thorne-fronted sports therapy series. Now, the network has officially opted to follow through on a third season, prior to debuting the remaining season 2 episodes on January 23, but is the new order shorter than usual? What's the future for Doctor Dani and her 'Necessary Roughness'?

Finally, 'Necessary Roughness' fans can rest easy. Though it may have finished last behind 'Suits,' 'White Collar,' 'Burn Notice,' 'Covert Affairs' and 'Royal Pains' in the race for renewal, USA has officially granted a third season to 'Necessary Roughness,' to consist of 10 episodes, down from its previous orders.

“'Necessary Roughness' is an important page in our network playbook,” said USA co-presidents Jeff Wachtel and Chris McCumber in a statement. “With a standout team of actors and writers playing at the top of their game, the upcoming seasons promise to deliver high-impact and creative storytelling.”

In spite of its renewal, to date 'Necessary Roughness' has rarely achieved over 3 million viewers. That number jumps 4.7 with DVR numbers, though the series isn’t seen to be a breakout hit. Thankfully, the show seems to have fared better than ‘Fairly Legal,’ ‘Common Law’ and ‘Political Animals,’ the latter of which was (mostly) intended to be a miniseries.
