Electronic Arts announced a brand new racing game called Need for Speed Rivals, coming to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in Fall 2013, with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions hitting stores later in the year.

A new studio called Ghost Games will be using the Frostbite 3 engine to build Need for Speed Rivals, which will hopefully give the game even more of the adrenaline-surging racing action we've come to expect from the series.

You can either play as a cop or a racer, with each side sporting its own set of challenges, rewards, and consequences.

If you play as a cop, you'll work with others in a team in order to chase down and bust the illegal racers in the hopes of getting promoted and rising in the ranks of the Police Force.

Playing as a racer will task you with juking cops for Speed Points and becoming an infamous, risk-taking speed demon by recording and sharing your runs.

The game will also sport a new online feature called AllDrive, which will allow players to transition seamlessly between singleplayer and multiplayer gameplay.

According to the press release, Rivals will boast the following features:

  • Next-Gen Racing – Redview County is brought to life with stunning, next-generation detail and weather effects that force drivers to master the elements, as well as the competition.
  • Need for Speed Network Powered by Autolog – Gamers can compare stats and challenge their friends anytime, anywhere and then easily share their accomplishments with both friends and rivals.
  • Personalization – Drivers customize their ride with fresh paintjobs, custom license plates, liveries, decals, rims, and performance upgrades.
  • Pursuit and Evasion Tech – Street racing explodes with 11 upgradeable gadgets including turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs for racers, and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops.
Pre-ordering the game will net you the Ultimate Cop Pack for no additional cost, ensuring that you get your hands on the Nissan GT-R Black Edition cop car.

The game will hit stores on November 19th, 2013 for current-generation consoles, with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions coming later in the year.
