Apart from a showrunner, Marvel’s Iron Fist development will begin and end with the casting of its title hero, a prospect that has already drawn some controversy. Official announcements might arrive any day, though Luke Cage and Jessica Jones star Mike Colter says the actor behind Netflix’s Daniel Rand has already been chosen.

Take this with a grain of salt for the moment, as Colter might potentially have misspoken, though it seems the actor dropped a surprising revelation in conversations with Collider at the TCA press tour a few weeks back, noting that Marvel may have already found its Iron Fist:

The actor has been cast, but he’s in a basement somewhere. When the time is right, they’ll let him up and tell him where he is.

Colter may also have meant his words metaphorically, and should there be a grain of truth to the claim, there’s no guarantee that Colter himself knows the actor playing Marvel’s final Defender, at least at the time of said quote (Marvel themselves offered no updates at the same event). Still, one at least wonders if Cage might have a role in the Iron Fist series prior to The Defenders, given the pair’s comic history:

I am [excited]. I’ll get a nice little break, after doing Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Whether I’m in [his show], I don’t know, but there’s The Defenders.

Meanwhile, Marvel maintains it hasn’t decided between scheduling Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, Jessica Jones Season 2 or possibly others, while Netflix previously expressed inclination to premiere only two Marvel series per year. Scott Buck will showrun Iron Fist, while recent reports suggested Jessica Jones writer Scott Reynolds will also have a hand on the creative side.

Iron Fist will likely move forward in the coming weeks and months, but who might finally put that glowing hand to good use?
