The upcoming Deadpool film promises to be unlike any comic book movie we’ve seen before. There’s a reason it took well over a decade into the superhero movie boom for this character to make a proper jump to the big screen – he’s totally weird and unconventional and begs for an R-rating. So consider these new images from the film a reminder that yes, a Deadpool movie is actually coming out next year and yes, a major motion picture has found a supporting role for an obscure character named Negasonic Teenage Warhead. 2015 is weird.

The first of the images shows off Ryan Reynolds in full Deadpool mode, striking a pose and armed to the teeth (and that costume still looks great). The second of them features Reynolds out of costume as Wade Wilson, prior to the events that transform him in a wisecracking killing machine, having a moment with Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa Carlysle (who, with the white hair and blue lighting, looks an awful lot like her alter ego, Copycat). The third image gives us another look at Brianna Hildebrand’s Ellie Phimister, aka Negasonic Teenage Warhead, one of several X-Men characters who comprise the supporting cast.

Here’s the official synopsis for Deadpool:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool opens on February 12, 2016. Check out the new images below (and click on them to take a closer look).
