After premiering at the Venice Film Festival and receiving its second prize, and screening at this year’s TIFF, Nocturnal Animals is finally heading to theaters. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams as two dangerously stylish divorcees who reconnect after he publishes a violent and upsetting book that is, for some reason, dedicated to her.

Obviously, with Tom Ford as the director, Nocturnal Animals has an immaculate sense of style and looks to be beautifully filmed. We get a little more backstory from this trailer than the teaser gave us back in September: apparently, when Adams’ character left Gyllenhaal, she did so in an extremely damaging, terrible way. Now it looks like he could be out for revenge.

Here’s the official synopsis:

From writer/director Tom Ford comes a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in Nocturnal Animals.

Our Erin Whitney saw the film at TIFF, and called it a “neatly polished melodrama-turned-thriller” that “doesn’t have much substance, but its dazzling style is hard to completely resist.” The film also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Michael Sheen, Armie Hammer, Michael Shannon, and Michael Shannon’s wonderful bushy mustache, and opens in theaters November 18.
