Late last week we were surprised by the rumors that 'Once Upon a Time's' producers had quietly begun plotting a Mad Hatter-centric spinoff, potentially re-casting busy 'Captain America: The WInter Soldier' star Sebastian Stan, but whether for damage control or not, it seems the rumor has largely been debunked. 'Once Upon a Time' creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have publicly commented on the prospect of a Mad Hatter spinoff, but what are the chances of it actually happening?

Fear not, Sebastian Stan fans, 'Once Upon a Time' won't be re-casting or spinning off Stan's Mad Hatter character just yet. Rumors had circled weeks ago that ABC intended to gauge the character's upcoming return as a launchpad for a spinoff, but series creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis assured HitFix that wasn't necessarily the case just yet.

It was very premature. To be honest, it was the two of us in our laboratory, but in today's world, whatever's in your laboratory gets out. We don't have plans to recast anyone and spinoff is premature.

We love Sebastian. If we could make him a regular, I would fly anywhere [in] the world to do it. We knew when we got him that he had movie after movie and everyone loved him.

It was believed that the character's next appearance this season could feature a new actor in the role, to be given a guest star spot with a series option, which has previously proven fruitful with stars Emile de Ravin (Belle), Meghan Ory (Red Riding Hood) and Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook). No word yet on whether or not Sebastian Stan will still be able to participate, given his 'Captain America' and Broadway schedules.

You can see the full interview for yourself below, but what say you? Are you relieved 'Once Upon a Time' has no plans to replace Sebastian Stan as the Mad Hatter?
