Is ‘Once Upon A Time’ Going To the Merry Old Land of Oz?
Whether or not you followed the first season of 'Once Upon A Time,' you should know that the hit ABC series delves into quite a bit of classic fairy tale mythology, everything from traditional Grimm to an overload of Disney characters. Now, following the Comic-Con 2012 reveal that the Storybrooke characters could take a trip to Neverland, might someone be headed over the rainbow as well?
Though it had been alluded to on the series once or twice before, TVGuide has corralled a few rumors suggesting that ABC's 'Once Upon A Time' could take a trip to the merry old land of Oz in the upcoming second season. 'Once Upon A Time' season 2 is already angling for an expansion of the mythology, as the coming episodes will include Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Aladdin, Jafar, and even Peter Pan's mortal nemesis Captain Hook.
As far as including 'The Wizard of Oz,' however, 'Once' executive producer Edward Kitsis says, "what's interesting is if you go back and look at the pilot, there's a page of flying monkeys in Henry's book. If I would go back and re-watch it — or buy the DVD coming out in August — and you pause on the book, you might see it."
Later first season episode "Hat Trick" features The Mad Hatter ('Captain America: The Winter Soldier's Sebastian Stan) taking the Evil Queen through a portal into a room full of doors, one of which is clearly visible as a green curtain with the "Oz" logo on it. Fans of the original 1939 film will remember that the great and powerful Oz famously hid his true identity behind a green curtain.
ABC claims that no current plans will take 'Once Upon A Time' to Oz in season 2, but executive producer Adam Horowitz says, "As we said in the episode with Wonderland, the Mad Hatter talks about all these worlds. We're very excited about the possibilities for where we could show."
Do you hope to see any classic 'Wizard of Oz' characters in the upcoming 'Once Upon A Time' season 2? Do you think the show is stuffed with too many characters already? Tell us your opinion in the comments below!
