World War II? J.J. Abrams? Supernatural monsters? If this sounds right up your alley, you won’t have that long to wait: Bad Robot’s Overlord, about a troop of soldiers battling strange monsters in the middle of a Nazi-occupied village, has landed a release date in the prime real estate of October 2018.

Deadline reports that Paramount has given Overlord a release of October 26, 2018, which is only a year and some months away. That’s a perfect time for a horror movie release, and this film does sound like it could be pretty scary:

On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.

The film is directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun), and stars Jovan Adepo and Wyatt Russell. It’s currently the only major studio release on that date, but that probably won’t last long. There’s a chance it could be competing with a couple of horror films, as this is will be the weekend before Halloween. Deadline does note that Overlord is sandwiched between a few big studio openers: Sony’s The Girl in the Spider Web and Warner Bros.’ Jungle Book: Origins October 19, and Disney’s live-action Mulan and Fox’s Dark Phoenix debut the following weekend on November 2. Overlord will have to make quite an impression to hold its own amongst these heavy-hitters, but we could have another sleeper hit Cabin in the Woods on our hands.

To reiterate: Overlord opens October 26, 2018. Still no word on whether this could be another Cloverfield movie.
