‘Passengers’ Trailer: Travel the Universe With Two of Its Brightest Stars

If you’re going to make a movie that’s basically just two people wandering through space alone, it might as well be two of the most charismatic and attractive people on the planet. (Or formerly of the planet, before they left it.)

I’m referring of course to Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, who are the co-leads of Passengers, the new sci-fi film from Morten Tyldum, the director of The Imitation Game (and before that little-seen but awesome Norwegian crime thriller Headhunters). This is also the latest screenplay from Jon Spaihts, who wrote Prometheus and the upcoming Doctor Strange. Lawrence and Pratt are part of an expedition into space, but when something goes terribly wrong, they’re the only ones who can save everything. (And, they soon discover, their early wake-up from space hibernation ion may not have been an accident.)

Here’s the official synopsis:

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction... only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.

They woke up too early! They want to go back to sleep! But they can’t go back to sleep! Could this possibly be some kind of a metaphor for something? Almost definitely yes! Passengers opens in theaters on December 21.
