Appealing as the concept of Patrick Stewart playing a debauchery-prone news anchor might have sounded, it seems Starz’s Blunt Talk has officially burned out. The network has opted not to renew the Seth MacFarlane-Jonathan Ames produced comedy beyond Season 2, completing its original order.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Blunt Talk’s December 11 finale will officially close out the series, having completed the initial two-season order from Starz in 2014. The Patrick Stewart-led news anchor comedy was based on an idea from Bored to Death creator Jonathan Ames (maybe we can get that movie, now?), who executive produced alongside Seth MacFarlane.

Says Starz of the cancellation:

We are grateful to Jonathan and Patrick for the tirades and laughs that Walter Blunt delivered to fans with such aplomb. While Walter may not be returning to the airwaves, we are incredibly proud of the work that was done these past two seasons by our wonderful partners and collaborators on Blunt Talk, from Seth Macfarlane and our studio MRC, to our actors, writers and crew. It was a very special show with a heartfelt message. It was an honor serving you, Major.

The series also starred Silver Linings Playbook alum Jackie Weaver, Adrian Scarborough, Dolly Wells, Richard Lewis, Ed Begley Jr., Romany Malco and Timm Sharp. Blunt Talk wasn’t anywhere close to a ratings or critical success, but did Patrick Stewart deserve a third shot at the character?
