Hollywood has a nostalgia problem. New ideas are dead. The old ideas keep coming back, like zombies with agents and managers. Studios cravenly target brands and properties with broad appeal across generations. Frankly, I’m getting a little sick of it, and starting right now I’m putting my foot down. I’m not going to get suckered in by these shameless attempts to milk my fond childhood memories anymo— ZOMFG IT’S PEE-WEE HERMAN.

Yep, that’s Paul Reubens back as his signature character on the set of his new film, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, which just went into production earlier this week. The image comes from Peewee.com, where Reubens is providing occasional updates from the set; this still comes from Day Two of shooting on the film, which is being produced by Judd Apatow. Here’s part of the blog post that went along with the picture:

Wow, am I tired! Just finished the second day of filming. Hitchhiked yesterday all day. Got a ride, hitchhiked some more, then got another ride. A lot of traveling in two days!

Pee-Wee promises to explain more in future updates and, of course, in the film itself when it comes to Netflix. Is it too much to hope Large Marge is the one driving that car? God, I love nostalgia.
