While we previously assumed that the new Power Rangers movie would be a reboot, a new report suggests that’s not quite accurate. In addition to providing a few new details and character names, the latest on the upcoming Power Rangers film reveals a very…interesting…choice of title for the risky big budget project.

Collider has exclusive details on the new Power Rangers film, which is reportedly titled Saban’s Power Rangers, as series co-creator Haim Saban wants his company name represented in the film’s title. Saban is also apparently involved in the script, which he’s working on with director Dean Israelite. The original draft was written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, who previously wrote X-Men: First Class. It’s unclear if Saban and Israelite are rewriting or simply revising the existing draft.

And although it was previously reported that the film would use the same character names as the series, Collider claims that these are the character names — which are entirely new:

  • Callum Oliver – The Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus
  • Priya Patel – The Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl
  • Brian Olson – The Blue Ranger/Triceratops
  • Oscar Fernandez – The Black Ranger/Mastodon
  • Teyana Jones – The Yellow Ranger/Sabre-tooth Tiger

You’ll notice that these names are matched up with their corresponding Ranger colors and prehistoric-inspired Zords, as seen in the original series. When combined, the Zord attack vehicles make up the formidable Mega-Zord, a Transformers-like robotic weapon piloted collectively by the young heroes. The report also suggests that we’ll see the original series costumes at some point in the film, and offers additional plot details, including specifics about an action-oriented opening scene.

This information has yet to be confirmed by Saban or Lionsgate, and while much of it seems quite plausible (including a $35 million budget — which isn’t that big), the title Saban’s Power Rangers is perhaps a bit eye roll-worthy. That doesn’t necessarily mean Collider’s information is wrong, but either way…man, that title.

Power Rangers hits theaters on January 13, 2017 and stars newcomers RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger.
