Sunday’s newest episode of Preacher introduced us to one of the AMC comic drama’s leading antagonists in the form of Jackie Earle Haley’s Odin Quincannon, but at least a few fans were left scratching their head at the absence of other Quincannons from early casting. Now, boss Sam Catlin confirms that Elizabeth Perkins and Lucas Neff’s roles were cut from the series, despite a brief pilot appearance.

Where initially Perkins was cast as Vyla Quincannon, described as “an ambitious and terrifying businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse,” a presumably gender-flipped version of Odin, showrunner Sam Catlin since-confirmed in a Reddit AMA (via UPROXX) that they’d since changed their minds. The duo are still visible in the pilot (Neff was to play J.J. Quincannon, seen on the right above), though Catlin says:

Vyla scrapped for now. Elizabeth Perkins amazing actor but we realized post pilot we wanted to go with more old school quincannon.

That isn’t to say that either Perkins or Neff couldn’t resurface in different roles, or perhaps modified versions of their original parts, but between the other major antagonist introduced at the top of Sunday’s “See,” the first season may look to keep Jesse’s villains relatively numbered.

In the meantime, check out the latest Preacher clips from this coming Sunday’s “The Possibilities,” and stay tuned for the latest.
