Considering how Radio Shack has been out of the limelight for the past decade or so, it's amusing to see that the company has some level of self-awareness. The new Radio Shack 2014 Super Bowl ad is chock full of self deprecating humor and, in a crazy little turn, most of it comes courtesy of '80s film and TV characters.

The ad begins with two clueless employees in your typical (dull, outdated) Radio Shack receiving a phone call and learning that the '80s wants their store back. Of course, the commercial means it very literally, and their store is invaded by a couple dozen '80s icons, who proceed to completely gut the entire place.

Of course, the final point of the ad is that Radio Shack is preparing for a grand reinvention and that it will soon look more like an Apple Store than a sad place selling gadgets. However, fans of pop culture should get a kick out of the execution, since it features so many famous, forgotten and totally bizarre characters. Where else are you going to see Teen Wolf, Chucky, Jason, Hulk Hogan (or at least a guy who looks like him), the California Raisins, the cast of 'C.H.I.P.S.,' the robot owl from 'Clash of the Titans,' Alf, Cliff from 'Cheers' and Twisted Sister all tearing apart a store you haven't been in since 2003?

We're not sure if we'll ever actually shop at Radio Shack again, but, hey, at least they have a commercial featuring the 'Back to the Future' DeLorean!
