Little by little, ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ has been revealing its cards as it preps fans for the fifth and reportedly penultimate installment in the horror-action franchise. A few weeks back, we unearthed a viral site warning us of the spread of the wicked Umbrella corporation. And now we get two fresh images from the upcoming film.

Obviously, by now, the films have stretched far away from the Capcom video games that originally inspired them. We’ll still have Milla Jovovich’s Alice rebelling against Umbrella, which is taking their sinister plans to a global level. And by the looks of the image below, they are wiping out major cities left and right.

How many films are going to use that “vacant city street” shot to convey ominous destruction? I still credit Cameron Crowe for actually shutting down Times Square for ‘Vanilla Sky.’ Just about everyone else uses digital trickery to strip cities of their populations.

Paul W.S. Anderson returns to direct the latest sequel, and has stated that they have plans in place for a franchise finale, if enough fans show up to support this installment. ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ co-stars Sienna Guillory, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr and original series star Michelle Rodriguez. Screen Gems will have it in theaters on Sept. 14.
