If you’ve gotta go to Afghanistan, traveling with Bill Murray doesn’t seem like a bad way to go…maybe. The first trailer for Rock the Kasbah is here, in which Murray plays an aging rock manager taking his last remaining client (Zooey Deschanel) on a USO tour of Afghanistan. Naturally, things go awry and wacky shenanigans occur and Bill Murray sings “Smoke on the Water,” further cementing his status as a dad icon.

Rock the Kasbah was directed by Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog), whose films in recent years haven’t been too great, but maybe with the help of Murray and a script by Mitch Glazer, he’ll turn it around. Glazer’s writing credits include Scrooged and Passion Play, so he’s got some experience writing for national treasure Bill Murray.

Here’s the official synopsis for Rock the Kasbah:

‘Rock The Kasbah’ is the story of Richie Lanz, a rock manager with a golden ear and a taste for talent, who has seen better times. When he takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan, she gets cold feet and leaves him penniless and without his passport in Kabul. While trying to find his way home, Richie befriends a band of misfits and discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice.

Against all odds, Richie will take his last shot at creating an unlikely superstar.

The film also features a pretty sweet supporting cast, including Bruce Willis, Danny McBride, Scott Caan and Kate Hudson. Rock the Kasbah hits theaters on October 23.
