Could this be it? Could Rough Night be the hilarious female ensemble comedy successor to Bridesmaids? A handful of films have made that promise since 2011; few have succeeded, many have disappointed, but Rough Night seems like a real winner based on this great red band trailer — appropriately released on International Women’s Day, no less. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Ilana Glazer and Jillian Bell, you could hardly ask for a better ensemble of funny women.

Although Johansson has become better known for her (great) sci-fi work in recent years, she’s also got some serious comedic chops — lest you forget her hosting stints on SNL (marble columns!). In Rough Night, Johansson plays a bride-to-be who gets together with her best friends for a bachelorette weekend that goes horribly wrong when they accidentally kill a male stripper. Yes, that sounds sort of like the plot of the male-centric Very Bad Things, but Rough Night doesn’t seem as mean-spirited as that film.

Broad City’s Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs (who also plays Johansson’s husband-to-be) co-wrote Rough Night, which also marks Aniello’s feature directorial debut. Given how great Broad City is, my expectations for Rough Night might be a teensy bit higher than usual.

Rough Night also stars Zoe Kravitz, Demi Moore (!), Colton Haynes and Ty Burrell, and hits theaters on June 16.
